Day 1
So I live in New York City and have been for almost a year now. I come from a town where you have to drive to the grocery store, drive to the mall, and drive to work. However, when you start walking everywhere, you not only notice more, I have found that you actually spend more money. Or at least, I do.
I have always loved clothes. I know my own personal style, and although it may not be the highest of fashion, I enjoy a simple black dress or an embellished cardigan to go with my boyfriend jeans. But let’s just say, I’m one of those girls that without question, changes into shorts and a t-shirt when I know I’m not leaving my apartment.
I have decided to challenge myself. I don’t usually see anything wrong with my clothes spending habits, but I mainly want to see if I can accept my own challenge: to not buy a piece of clothing (yes, including shoes) for 30 days. My reward: I will finally go make myself buy a pair of black slacks that I definitely need. This will not only save me money, but it will make me be creative with what I have. And in winter in New York, that can be tough for me to stray away from suit pants and a new sweater.
So here goes day 1. The main challenge was finding a Macy’s giftcard from Christmas that I hadn’t used. I found myself thinking about taking a trip to Macy’s from work - just a simple subway stop away, but caught myself, knowing that I would have to wait until February.
