One Month is Only 30 Days

Self control one day at a time

End of Month 1

Wow. I am a horrible blogger. However, I did accomplish what I came out to do. Although, knowing this past month, I probably would not have had time to go shopping anyway. Also, who is ready for spring?! I mean I do love the snow, but I am so ready to actually feel the sun and see something green. Not to mention that my skin is pretty much translucent at this point (which didn’t take much to do).

But I’m rambling. I think I may continue to do these “monthly challenges.” My next will be taking my lunch to work which will be interesting.  Especially since I have Wednesday’s lunch still in my fridge…

Day 11

Yes, I am alive. Still apparel purchaseless, and thank you to everyone who is actually reading my blog.  This week has been a little crazy, and I’ve been sick, but enough excuses!  I have several times almost bought a pair of shoes or a dress on sale.  However, most of these almost-purchases have actually been online.  Since I work late most of the week, I don’t have too much time to go around and buying clothes, but I have found some dangerous alternatives…

Many of you probably know about Gilt Groupe, but there are two other sites I would like to turn your attention to: http://www.ruelala.com and http://www.hautelook.com.  These are also designer discount sites that have their items up for a limited amount of time, but the discounts are crazy!  I think you may need an invite to check them out.  If so, let me know, and I will gladly hit you up.

Day 5

At least I’ll be back for this:

Day 4

Well, almost bought a dress off of Target.com, but totally caught myself before I placed my order. Instead, I kept to my original purchase and bought a new microfleece blanket for my bed (best blankets ever).  Oy, looks like I’ll have to wear a boot for my foot… Guess that takes me out of the running for buying heels anytime soon.

Day 3

So, yesterday was a long work day, which did not even give me an excuse to go shopping. I was too tired to even go grocery shopping on the way home, but we’ll see how this weekend is.  Since I took my only actual good pair of black suit pants to the cleaners, I’ve been wearing mainly skirts… Which is a new thing. Kind of getting used to it, especially since now it’s pulled out of the twenty degree weather.

Day 2

How in the world is it only Tuesday?! I blame the weather.  It is so cold here, and it’s making me not want to go outside to do anything.  This brings me to my next point.  I may have made things too easy on myself in starting this challenge in the middle of January.  I would rather b-line to my apartment or to the gym after work than take a detour to 5th Avenue.

I think this may not be as hard as I thought it would be, but we shall see.  I do kind of wish I hadn’t walked into Banana Republic on Sunday however.  Everything is navy blue.  And it’s wonderful.  I have tried so many times to stray away from wearing navy (because I have so much of it!) but it really is my favorite color…  This was the last thing I bought before the start of the challenge…Navy Sweater Vest

Kind of fun, right?  But alright, I’ll start posting pictures… Although, it’s not going to be too exciting I think until later in the month…

I also wish my foot would stop hurting so I could wear something other than my black flats…

Day 1

So I live in New York City and have been for almost a year now.  I come from a town where you have to drive to the grocery store, drive to the mall, and drive to work. However, when you start walking everywhere, you not only notice more, I have found that you actually spend more money. Or at least, I do.

I have always loved clothes. I know my own personal style, and although it may not be the highest of fashion, I enjoy a simple black dress or an embellished cardigan to go with my boyfriend jeans. But let’s just say, I’m one of those girls that without question, changes into shorts and a t-shirt when I know I’m not leaving my apartment.

I have decided to challenge myself. I don’t usually see anything wrong with my clothes spending habits, but I mainly want to see if I can accept my own challenge: to not buy a piece of clothing (yes, including shoes) for 30 days. My reward: I will finally go make myself buy a pair of black slacks that I definitely need. This will not only save me money, but it will make me be creative with what I have.  And in winter in New York, that can be tough for me to stray away from suit pants and a new sweater.

So here goes day 1.  The main challenge was finding a Macy’s giftcard from Christmas that I hadn’t used. I found myself thinking about taking a trip to Macy’s from work - just a simple subway stop away, but caught myself, knowing that I would have to wait until February.
